DO YOU WANT THIS IN YOUR BACKYARD?

WHY THIS DOES NOT MAKE SENSE

NOISE IS LOUDER THAN TOWN ALLOWS - The Decibal level of a turbo prop engine (Jet Engine) far exceeds the town limits. The noise is louder than having Stafford Motor Speedway in your backyard. As a Somers resident, you can hear Jet Planes take off from Bradley International Airport. Now move that noise 12 miles closer into your backyard…

TANKS OF FLAMABLE JET FUEL ON SITE ARE ENVIRONMENTALLY UNSAFE & A FIRE HAZARD - Has our Fire Department been trained or are they even equipped to handle a major disaster? Who in the town of Somers is responsible for environmental catastrophes? And what about the potential impact to Watchaug Brook, Scantic River and further down the line to our beloved Mill Pond, a family recreational treasure. The homes in the area on city water or wells? This is introducing hazardous subtances 216 ft from downgradient Inland Wetlands & Critical Habitat per the Town of Somers GIS maps.

SAFETY!!! - Is the town fire department equiped to handle a jet fuel fire/leak or plane crash?? Plus the extremely close proximity to Durkee & Watchaug Road. What is the clearance height between the top of a School Bus full of children or a NETTS truck and the the jet plane taking off or landing on this runway? PLEASE drive by and see for yourself how close to the road it is.

GEESE AND OTHER WILDLIFE IN FIELDS AT AIRPORT - Birds can get stuck in a Jet Engine resulting in an aircraft accident over nearby homes. As Somers residents, you know every spring & fall thousands of geese migrate & land in the fields surrounding this runway and airport.

LANDING SPEED OVER 100 MPH - Jet plane landing over nearby homes and neighborhoods exceeding 100 MPH. Low flying aircraft crossing over busy roads at extremely low altitudes, buzzing over streets to land and take off. Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

PLANE EXPECTS TO MAKE DEILVERIES TO/FROM CENTRAL AMERICA - What or who is coming and going from this airport - cargo? 2,000 employees from Central America? There is no FAA oversight of the cargo or people who will be coming & going from outside our country. Does a farmer need TWO jet planes to “check on their crops”?

AIR STRIP SIZE - The newly paved airstrip is longer than Ellington Airport. What was the impact of Ellington Airport to the homes around it? Drive by Ellington Airport, is that the look we want for Somers?

NO FAA FLIGHT OVERSIGHT - No one is overseeing plane movements. Planes can leave & arrive 24-7. Who is checking what and or who is coming and going from the airport? Our town police officers? Will one be on duty on-site every time or ANY time the Jet Plane moves?

PROPERTY OWNERS ORIGINAL APPLICATION TO BUILD A NEW HANGER TO STORE 2 JET PLANES WAS DENIED BY THE TOWN - The original hangar on site was demolished without a permit. What else has/will be been done without town permission

PROPERTY OWNER IS NOW APPEALING & WANTS TO BUILD A LARGER HANGAR THAN WAS ORIGINALLY THERE WITH MINIMAL WING CLEARANCE - They are proposing a 9,000 (76 x 105) sq ft hangar to house TWO Jet Planes, 1 Single Prop & 1 Dual Prop plane. The original hangar was 3,500 (70 x 50) ft hangar, substantially smaller. The proposed hangar is nearly THREE times the size of the original hangar.

PROPERTY VALUES - What will the impact be to surrounding neighborhood property values? This area is zoned A-1 Residential, but the new property owner wants to run his “Business Only” activities from the site.

DON’T LIVE ON WATCHAUG OR DURKEE ROADS - This plane flies at an altitude of 20,000 feet, at a speed of 322 MPH. On it’s approach to an airport, it has to slow down to 100 MPH, which is done on a long approach. This style plane will be below 1,000 ft altitude starting in East Longmeadow if flying south, or if approaching headed north will be that low going ove the CENTER OF SOMERS as they approach. This is a commercial plane as you can see, trying to land on local farm property while putting a large portion of the town at risk!

September 12th at 7:00 pm

Somers Town Hall

There will be an appeals hearing to see if the town will allow a large hangar that will fit TWO Turbo Prop Jet Planes in town on Watchaug Road. This has a huge impact on everyone living within a mile radius of this landing strip. This could lead to more planes, more noise and more importantly can lead to an airport expansion that our town does not need, but will be unable to stop.

Please come to the Town Meeting on September 12th and make your voice heard.

Will this effect my Property Value?

Short answer is YES!. In most circumstances Airport drive down home values. Not many people want to live near busy highways, and that not even as loud as an airport. Jets have to run the engine for a while before takeoff creating a loud disturbance as far as 5 miles away.

Large Hangar to fit Jet more than one Jet Plane.

The is the proposed drawing give to the town for approval. The wingspan is nearly 60 ft wide. This is not a plane for farmins, this is a commercial use plane. The land owner states to the town he want to be able to travel from Somers, CT to Central America to pick up workers? Who is overseeing all of this activity?

Noise that exceeds town ordinance of over 100 Decibels

Jet taking off from landing strip on Watchaug Road

Large Hangar to fit Jet more than one Jet Plane.

If approved, Somers will have very large noisy hangar that can fit multiple jet planes as well as tanks of flammable Jet Fuel, environmental fire hazard.

IS YOUR WATER SUPPLY IS AFFECTED?

Jet Fuel is introduced to our water supply. Is your well now going to be compromised?

Jet fuel is ONLY 200 FEET AWAY FROM CRITICAL WATERWAYS.

Jet fuel is ONLY 200 FEET AWAY FROM CRITICAL HABITATS.

Downward Slope from Hangar to water ways would be a recipe for disaster to all living nearby.

IS THIS A FARMERS PLANE??

Does this look like a farmers plane to you??
